Deepmind Scholarship Programme

Through all the advances that have been made in the AI industry over the years, there has been one persisting issue holding it back: A lack of diversity.

The Problem

The AI workforce being overwhelmingly white-male has inevitably led to racial bias in some of the technology produced. This includes facial recognition systems being 19% less accurate when recognising images of Black individuals compared to White individuals. As well as the risk that AI is less accurate in identifying skin cancer in patients with darker skin.

The Solution

That’s one of the reasons why the Artificial Intelligence research laboratory  Deepmind started its revolutionary scholarship programme for those studying at the MSc or PhD level - And it’s open right now!

Eligibility Requirements

In order to be eligible, you must be able to answer YES to all of the following questions:

- Are you an MSc or PhD student?

- Is your field in computer science, Artificial Intelligence or a related field?

- Do you have an offer letter or expect to receive this letter by the 13th of May?

- Does your course start in the 2022-23 academic year?

- Are you a student from Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, who are typically under-represented in this area of study?

- Are you a home Home/UK student?OR, Are you an international student with an offer letter from a UK university?

If you answered YES to all the questions above you should consider applying for the Deepmind scholarship programme!
